Pretty cool concept, shame about the car. This is the full version of the advert, the one shown on TV is a bit shorter.

Done a podcast with some folk from GRcade:

Join Aaron, Graham, Matthew and Chris for a brief currently playing and hot picks for 2010. It’s a quick show that next week should be bigger(if some people aren’t on deadline). And was thrown together in mere minutes.

Download it here: http://www.archive.org/download/grcadegrcade/gr.mp3

And it’s now available in iTunes, subscribe here: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=350456576

Picture Of The Day… November 2, 2009

Posted by Matthew in Chiptune, News.

aka Episode #7 of STFUAJPGM is now available HERE. It’s a brilliant series of chiptune mixtapes, which I have mentioned previously, and this one contains the awesome remix of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band I mentioned the other day, as well as a few other cover versions of various artists.

This week’s theme: Alternate Worlds

In late 1988, the great professor Philip Henry Guttenburg Von Datamosh XIII disappeared from his home laboratory. He was known for his immense knowledge in many fields, as he held 9 doctorates in an array of fields including Ancient History, Computer Sciences, and Music Composition. The last known footage of VonDatamosh was taken from a security camera in his home. He was seen turning on his NES and Particle Field Generator at the same time. Years later, his journal was found in the very spot that he was last seen standing.

Enjoy! http://stfuajpgm.com/episode7.html

EXCITE! October 28, 2009

Great timing, this. I just recently downloaded Excitebike on the Virtual Console via that free-NES-game-if-you-downloaded-the-internet-browser offer on the Wii shopping channel, so the announcement of Excitebike: World Rally on WiiWare was a nice surprise. It still takes place on a 2D plane, but with a 3d makeover, and the inclusion of online multiplayer and track editor makes this a day one purchase for me. The original is a forgotten classic, and Excitebike 64 wasn’t too shabby (Virtual Console, please) so here’s hoping that, unlike Excitebots, this actually makes it over to Europe. Preview at IGN is HERE. Trailer is in the video below, skip to 0:55 and avoid the irritating presenters if you don’t want to lose the will to live.

..in a fucking pachinko game. Oh Japan.

It’s a shame, really, since a new Goemon game in the same vein as Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon/Goemon’s Great Adventure using the same art style as that trailer would no doubt be brilliant.

STFUAJPGM June 27, 2009

I don’t know what the hell that acronym stands for, but this is interesting. Taken from the site, this is what it’s all about:

STFUAJPGM is a miniature mixtape and magazine with a focus on the freely distributed music within the chiptune community. We hope to explore an array of themes inspired by video game culture (and more) in each episode, by use of short articles, videos, pixel art, and of course: music.

Each episode is split into separate acts and has it’s own little story to read along with it. There have been two so far:

Episode 1: The Story of a Hero

What Makes a hero? What runs through your mind when you’ve take thousands of lives?

Episode 0 (The Pilot): A Love Story

What better way to start a mixtabe series than expore the story of an 8bit couple?

It’s fantastic and definitely worth a listen. You can keep up to date with the release of new episodes by following their Twitter HERE.

The Best Promo Video I’ve Seen In A While May 11, 2009

Amazing. The best bit in particular being the classic bike scene. Nintendo certainly aren’t messing about with the advertising for the upcoming new Punch-Out!! game, if they don’t use this as commercial rather than just a promotional video then they are insane. From now on they should just scrap their usual ads with idiots flailing around on sofas, and instead replace them with actors from The Wire. Only two weeks to go.

Writing for Gamestyle April 6, 2009

Posted by Matthew in Gamestyle, News, Stuff.

I’ve got a writing gig at Gamestyle. the website has been around for almost ten years in one form or another. Some notable past writers include Garnett Lee (editor at 1UP.com) and Darren Jones (editor of Retro Gamer magazine) and Ollie Barder of The Guardian. My first article should hopefully be a Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask retrospective.

Lovely UK gaming site Peoww, which I contribute to, has just had a tasty site redesign and now uses WordPress, like all the cool cats do. Check it out along with the forum but watch out for Tiq, he’ll have you.
