Some massive Gundam statue thing somewhere – probably Japan. Looks cool.

That is all.

8-bit Beatles October 28, 2009

Following the re-release and remasters of all The Beatles’ albums, and The Beatles: Rock Band, comes WANNA HLD YR HANDHELD, VOL.1 by the 8-Bit Operators:

Almost 2 full years in the making, the 8-Bit Operators’ “Wanna Hld Yr Handheld, Vol. 1” Beatles tribute focuses on the glorious avant-garde and electronic side of the Fab 4 with over 20 of the biggest international names in 8-bit chip music, all utilizing the hardware of re-tooled, classic Game Boys, Ataris, Nintendo Entertainment Systems, circuit-bent toys, Commodore 64s and Apple II computers.

It’s pretty good, with my favourite track being the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. You can listen to it via the site, or you can pay fro the download HERE.

Great timing, this. I just recently downloaded Excitebike on the Virtual Console via that free-NES-game-if-you-downloaded-the-internet-browser offer on the Wii shopping channel, so the announcement of Excitebike: World Rally on WiiWare was a nice surprise. It still takes place on a 2D plane, but with a 3d makeover, and the inclusion of online multiplayer and track editor makes this a day one purchase for me. The original is a forgotten classic, and Excitebike 64 wasn’t too shabby (Virtual Console, please) so here’s hoping that, unlike Excitebots, this actually makes it over to Europe. Preview at IGN is HERE. Trailer is in the video below, skip to 0:55 and avoid the irritating presenters if you don’t want to lose the will to live.
