Best battle initiation mechanism in a JRPG is Paper Mario’s.

Skies of Arcadia had a part where you had to fly you ship for miles through uncharted skies and you’d get attacked literally every 5 seconds. What was retarded was you would fight on the deck of the ship – just lock the doors and ignore them!

I always wanted to bu.y that game, but what you said is precisely why I didn’t. a lot of reviews mentioned how annoyingly frequent the random battles were.

I still would’ve recommended it as essential playing back in the day.

A flying battleship using magic cannons against a colossus probably still = WIN
